The North Mymms Social Club is a lively and very friendly institution for the inhabitants of Welham Green. The club is for members only and an annual membership costs £20. In return for this, the members enjoy a friendly, safe atmosphere, facilities such as a pool table, dart board and two full-size snooker tables. Football matches are shown on the big screen and regular events, entertainments and quiz nights are held which everyone enjoys. An important point is that the club is DOG-friendly and the Happy Hour session, Monday to Friday 1700hrs to 1930hrs, when drinks are really cheap, attracts a lot of dogs and their walkers.
One of the most popular attractions of the North Mymms Social Club is that it provides a regular turnaround of Real Ales. The Club puts barrels of local small brewery beers on a rotation. When one beer has finished another beer from a different brewery replaces it. There are two hand pumps so there is a constant supply of different beers, all of high quality, being served with a smile throughout the month.
Opening Times for North Mymms Social Club are 12.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 23.00 Monday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday the club is open from 12.00 to midnight. Sunday the club is open from 12.00 to 23.00.
The importance of this club as a social centre in the local community cannot be underestimated. For the DOGTokyo2017 artist, Akane Takayama, it has been an outpost of welcome ever since she moved into the village in 2011. As a Japanese national working in England for over 30 years she had never lived in the countryside until she moved to Welham Green. This move was made so much easier by the friendly people in the village and the opportunity the North Mymms Social Club provides to meet new people and have an enjoyable time.
